Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Director Pakistan Japan Business Forum (PJBF) and Chairman Baig Group attended Pak-Japan Business Roundtable chaired by the President of Pakistanat President House, Islamabad . The meeting was attended by Chairmen and CEOs of Japanese Multinational companies operating in Pakistan , Ambassador and Consul General of Japan to Pakistan and President Japan Chamber of Commerce & Industry. From Pakistan side, the meeting was attended by President FPCCI, President KCCI Mian Abrar Ahmed, Heads of Pakistani leading companies, Federal Ministers and Secretaries.
Japan is the major trading partner of Pakistan . The present trade between the two countries is US $1.9 Billion with major exports from Japan . Dr. Baig informed that the purpose of this important meeting is to enhance bilateral trade and investment between Pakistan and Japan . He offered Japanese businessmen to invest in new Special Economic Zones announced enjoying facilities of no custom duty and taxes on import of plant and machinery and 5 years tax exemption on income tax. Dr. Baig who is also the Chairman of Pakistan Textile City project, discussing coal based captive power generation plant by the Japanese companies on BOT basis for PTC.
President Asif Ali Zardari stressed the needs for collaboration in the automobile, agriculture, textiles, minerals sector particularly power generation through alternative energy i.e. Wind Mill, Solar and Coal and proposed that since Japan hold the major share of Pakistan automobile sector, the manufacturers should diversify to manufacture their spare parts to save millions of dollar foreign exchange on their import. The President also proposed NAPTHA Cracker project in Pakistan with Japanese collaboration as Japan is the major importer of NAPTHA from Pakistan .
