The attached video clip shows how a neighbour catches a 7-yer-old girl ‘expertly’ and ‘safely’; after she fell out of an apartment building window, in Coney Island Houses. The incident occurred at around 2:10 p.m. Monday on Surf Ave., Brooklyn whereby neighbours were alarmed to see the girl climb out her apartment window and perching precariously on the building’s air conditioning unit.
The shocked neighbours would be seen gathering outside the apartment building and moving here and there restlessly. However, Steve St. Bernard stood his ground and kept on watching the girl; anticipating her to fell any moment. An MTA bus driver Steve subsequently said he prayed that should the girl fall, he would catch her before reaching the floor.
The 7-year-old unnamed girl somehow managed to crawl out through a small empty space, next to the said air conditioning unit; after creating an opening by pulling the plastic partition of the unit aside. The girl then stood atop the unit and started singing and even dancing while the crowd below watched in horror. A short while later, she loses her balance and comes down flying in the air.
But ‘predetermined to save the girl,’ Steve keeps his focus on the ‘object’ and catches her inches before she would touch the ground. During the process, a father of four children, Steve himself ended up knocked to ground but certainly saved the girl from a serious injury. The witnesses said the girl remained safe though she smashed her head into a bush. Though she was brought to a Coney Island Hospital but police said it was only a precautionary measure. Steve was also treated at the same hospital as he ended up with a torn tendon, in his left bicep.
