Billy Hamilton Steals Second

Minor-league speedster Billy Hamilton has stolen 109 bases through 87 games this season, earning himself national accolades from the likes of our own Jeff Passan as well as a spot in last week's All-Star Futures game in Kansas City.

Yet even the 20-year-old Reds farmhand must realize that such prodigious numbers can somehow start to glaze our jaded eyes a bit over time. So now the noted Mountain Dew swiller is making headlines with an inside-the-park home run completed in an unbelievable amount of time for the Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos on Sunday.

According to Larry Granillo's , Hamilton completed the circuit against Jacksonville's defense in just 13.8 seconds. That's a step or two faster than the 14.26 seconds that it took Peter Bourjos of the Los Angeles Angels to complete his inside the parker from earlier this season — and Hamilton wasn't even going full speed as he arrived at home plate standing up.Hamilton is guaranteed to continue garnering headlines over the next month as he makes a run at Vince Coleman's pro record of 145 steals (achieved with Macon in 1983) in a single season. The Blue Wahoos have 45 games left this season with Hamilton then possibly holding a pinch-running September call-up date to Cincinnati once the rosters expand
