A dramatic footage of an Israeli protestor setting himself alight infront of many shocked observers is being recently recorded. The man in his 40s demonstrated against the high cost of living and other social issues.
He poured flammable liquid over himself at the protest in Tel Aviv. The shocked crowd immediately tried to extinguish the fire with the help of shirts and water.
TV cameras and photographers have captured the moment and Israel's Channel 10 TV has even showed the horrific footage.
The man left a letter blaming government for his financial problems. He was later rushed to a hospital where he is now being treated for serious burns.
Such cases of self-immolation are quite common in countries where peopl's basic needs are not fulfilled by the government. These cases are rare in Israel. The most famous recent case of self-immolation other than Israel took place in Tunisia when a fruit seller set himself on fire in 2010.
Growing discontent among Israelis over housing prices and other social inequalities have spurred marches, boycotts and labor strikes in the Jewish state. Hundreds of Israeli protestors took part in the recent rally. People were seen carrying signs reading 'social justice for everybody' and 'stop exploiting us.'
