Since Friday afternoon, hundreds of volunteers are frantically combing Iowa Lake area; in search of 2 missing girls who mysteriously vanished from downtown Evansdale. Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins, respectively 10 and 8-year-old cousins, were last seen after noon, said police.
The girls disappeared from the area while their bikes were located later, parked at Meyers Lake’s trail on the southeast corner. Ever since the girls went missing, the Black Hawk County investigators launched rescue efforts while friends and family members were being questioned.
According to reports, the entire registered sex offenders of the area were also being contacted and questioned while nearly 40 per cent of the Iowa Lake had already been searched. Authorities however said no other trace(s) of the missing girls could be found yet though Lyric’s devastated mother Misty Cook Morrissey strongly believes; someone abducted the cousins.
While talking to the media Saturday, Misty expressed that her daughter Lyric never wandered too far ever from her home; something simply out of her character. Misty further conveyed that both Elizabeth and Lyric used to stay often at Elizabeth’s home; while Elizabeth’s mother used to work.
Kent Smock, the Evansdale police and fire chief did not rule the possibility out that the small girls may have been abducted. He however added that the situation was still being viewed by authorities; as a missing-persons case.
