Khyber agency: the pak government has suspended the oil and containers supply to NATO and ISAF forces in Afghanistan via pak afghan highway Khyber agency due to security concerns. According to the political administration,” the oil tankers and containers supply via pak afghan haighway Khyber agency will remain suspended till the next official orders. The government officials also ordered the takhta baig check post officials to stop entering the oil tankers carrying oil and containers carrying goods to the ISAF and NATO forces in Afghanistan via pak afghan highway Khyber agency. The containers and oil supply contractors also confirmed the suspending of supply and said that they have been notified by the government official in this regard and said that they would definitely wait for further government orders to start the supply of oil and containers to Afghanistan. The government official at Torkham also confirmed the official orders of suspending the oil and containers supply to Afghanistan and said that they have been ordered to let those containers and oil tankers enter to Afghanistan which are present at pak afghan border Torkham and nearby stations. They added that the supply is temporarily suspended via pak afghan highway Khyber agency due to security reasons.
Dismissing the impression that the decision is a reaction to continued United States attacks in Waziristan the political agent Khyber agency captain ( r ) Tariq hayat said that,
“This decision has nothing to do with the situation in Waziristan or the US attacks. This is purely a security issue and we want no untoward incident to take place as far as supplies for ISAF are concerned.” The international Torkham Highway was closed for “vulnerable vehicles”, he said referring to trucks carrying ISAF supplies, and the supplies would resume after the highway was cleared. but he did not make it clear that how long it will take to resume the supply again.
