Summit a Success, But South China Sea Issue Remains: Analysts (Cambodia news in Khmer)

According to AFP, the Philippines was convinced to confrontation among ASEAN countries with China at the Scarborough Shoal in the agenda but Cambodia, the host of the conference, did not agree.

Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong has expressed his regrets in bilateral issues (between the Philippines and China).

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who attended the meeting today 07.12, expressed hope for the unity of ASEAN and urged complete the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea (COC), a set of rules is expected to help reduce the risk of conflict in the South China Sea.

ASEAN meeting ended at 07.13 hours, but the member states did not achieve general statement as usual.

This is the first time in history an ASEAN meeting ended without a joint statement.

Analysts say the rift will affect future negotiations between ASEAN and China.
