Farmer Winston Howes now 70 years old spent a week planting oak saplings after his wife of 33 years died suddenly 17 years ago. Planted in a heart shaped formation surrounding a meadow on his land.. The heart is pointed in the direction of where his wife Janet was born. The saplings have grown into a wood which is picturesque.

He selected a high point on his 112 acre farm near Wickwar South Gloucestershire.

The site cannot be seen from the road and had been a family secret until a hot-air balloonist spotted it whilst airborn and took the picture.

Mr.Howes has been reported as saying he goes up there from time to time recalling his memories. There is a wooden bench he has had placed there to sit on and the meadow has been planted with daffodils.

What a beautiful and enduring memorial.

Memorial to a much loved wife.
Thousands of oak saplings were specially planted in field on his farm to create this memorial.
