Bible Verse of the Day
Bring joy to your servant, Lord, for I put my trust in you.
Yesterday we began to look at the topic of joy in our lives and how it is the initial assault of the enemy to rob it from us. We talked about when joy is lost it often begins a spiral into self reliance and away from God.
Sometimes this joy is robbed in a swift move… the loss of a loved one, sudden health issues, etc.
But more often than not it is a an erosion of joy from many angles that slowly move us into our cocoons meant for protection that end up being a cage.
When things happen in our lives we take precautions to try to prevent them from happening again. Which at some level is ok but most of the time we swing this pendulum too far into an unhealthy place.
We let the things that happen to us lead us into other emotions than prevent joy. We move from hurt and sorrow to anger, fear, bitterness, apathy, resignation, hopelessness.
It is not possible for joy to coexist with these heart draining emotions.
And when we really peel it back, down to its deepest core we are putting our trust in something other than the Father.
This lack of trust leads to our trying to control, and control has never led to freedom. and freedom is where the joy is.
So dear friend join me today in asking the Holy Spirit to help us move closer to the Father and help us repeal these vows of self reliance (both the obvious and the subtle ones).
This is hard… but what is it your heart desires? Joy….
Have a blessed day,
