An ambushed interview of a media shy former board member Joselito Villegas Paras, commomly called “Litoy” in Guihulngan, as I and my companions asked him about their family's relationship especially his brothers and him in connection to the reported resurgence of their family in politics. This is what he told us that the relationship of their family is okay including his brothers and him also and he assured the public that they are not divided, they are fine really. The supporters who still believe and love them will be happy to read this. Joselito Villegas Paras had a beautiful political career in the previous years. And as we recall as we knew him, aside from the good things we knew about him, that before he joined politics he was a religious person (and still a religious person due to the example of his religious mother, Milena who was active in the Catholic church when she was alive; she was also a former mayor of Guihulngan). Former Board Member Litoy Paras was and still a member of the Catholic Charismatic movement in the Parish of the Immaculate Conception in Hilaitan, Guihulngan, Negros Oriental and the Knights of Colombus in Vallehermoso then Guihulngan. He was a group chief of React NegOr 1, a radio group of volunteers in times of emergency based in Guihulngan; and in 1997, he passed through a secret balloting and was elected as candidate for councilor of Guihulngan by the votes of all the 33 barangay captains of Guihulngan and then came the 1998 election. He ran for councilor of Guihulngan and he won and was elected magnimously. He was also a member of the Couples for Christ Guihulngan Chapter during those years when he was a councilor and still is. As a councilor, he remarkably served the government, his constituents and authored significant ordinances and resolutions for their welfare and because of that he was endorsed by political leaders to run for board member of the Province of Negros Oriental for the first district in 2001. He was elected as a provincial board member, as first board memberof the first district, and he thanked the people for their trust; he served the first district in exceptional quality since politics was on his side and the time; through his efforts as board member there were many projects he gave to the people from his provincial fund such as vehicles, goat dispersal, water pipes, road rehabilitiation, municipal stages, school lot, medicines, handheld communication devices, motorcycles, school tables and chairs, large canvasses (trapal) for the barangays, etc. He legislated ordinances and resolutions for the good of the province.
But in 2004 there was a political problem in his hometown that needed his help and continous presence there, and his good public service, by that he was tossed up by his supporters to run for vice-mayor in Guihulngan in 2004 to equate the political situation and he won. He thanked the people of Guihulngan because of the victory they gave him to become their vice-mayor. As usual he served his constituents impressively, even with an unsupportive mayor, but through his efforts, ideas and innovation he had served the people in outstanding way. He had helped in crafting the necessary documents in support to the cityhood of Guihulngan at the first stages with the council.
But he acknowledged that in those years with his brothers in the top position serving the people well in the district and the satisfied constituents of his too, such had contributed to his good political career. His public life was interrupted only when their family politically had a fight and in the election such was adjudged as inappropriate and it got on his way that badly affected the outlook of the public considerably to their family and were divided, and that interfered in their victory so that an unknown candidate was elected as representative of the district unexpectedly; thus, to clarify this further, as a united whole group was divided in their situation, like a cake, leaving the first half of the cake to their divided family to share in the votes and the other half of the cake to the new candidate as the third party and the votes; it's defeating to the divided. Many says today that if their family were not divided in 2007 an unknown candidate could not have appeared and won. Yes, many agrees with remarks that "family fight and mistake is normal in Philippine politics because change is constant in this world as the world is turning, but life must go on for the Paras brothers; we all have to move on. Everyone, particularly those who with sad experienced in life, should!" by GuihulnganRecorder and Co.
