Legendary actor Ernest Borgnine, a man whose acting career spanned nearly 61 years in both television and film, died Sunday. He was 95.

From EW:

Television fans loved Borgnine as the scheming Navy officer in the sitcom McHale’s Navy. Borgnine was also known as the heavy who beats up Frank Sinatra in From Here to Eternity and one of the thugs who menaces Spencer Tracy in Bad Day at Block Rock.

Although he may not have been familiar to many of you, he had an influence in some of your kids/little siblings lives as well: he voiced Mermaid Man on the Nickelodeon show, “SpongeBob Squarepants”.

Ernest passed away with his family by his side at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in L.A. May he always rest.
