I have felt abnormally nervous in South and West Yorks libraries for a while using free computers. Some people would say that is abnormal. I heard talk and smelt drugs that made computer suite Sheffield not nice to sit down in.
Now it did appear to have cleaned up a bit. But Wath library, where I felt even more uneasy, has proved my view not to be that way out recently. If you feel like telling yourself it is potentially violent, not like libraries used to be, and that a bubble is about to burst, then you end up proved correct. People in Sheffield and Doncaster libraries were talking about their mates being killed, as if it was just everyday talk people were no longer shocked about. Wath had a lad saying he wanted to kill his mate recently on upper floor. Staff closed front door for youth violence and offered to ring police. Sheffield kept the massive front door closed earlier. The stairway was said to be needing repair and a poster announced acts of theft.
Maybe my viewpoint is not that way out. I sensed it coming. It is to be hoped it stops. It is costing time and money in a period of recession and lbrary cut backs to get repairs done and police called out. That surely has to become unnecessary and this 'crime' has to stop..
