On Sunday, a Detroit woman Adaisha Miller was accidentally shot to her death; just a day ahead of her 25th birthday. Celebrating with friends at an outdoor social gathering, Miller reportedly embraced an unnamed off-duty cop from behind but what happened next; left everyone in shock and complete disbelief. Officer’s weapon discharged; and the poor woman was down the floor.
According to the details, the shooting occurred at around 12:30 a.m. Sunday on Detroit city’s west. Miller was celebrating the weekend with friends before her upcoming 25th birthday, said police. Giving details of the tragic incident, police Sergeant Eren Stephens said the woman who would be turning 25 Monday, gave a hug to the said off-duty Detroit police officer while dancing joyfully.
Witnesses, police and victim’s mother said the moment she embraced him from behind, it caused the officer’s service weapon to automatically fire a shot. Mother Yolanda McNair said further that everyone around was stunned to hear a gunshot after which; her daughter was on the floor, with blood oozing out of a wound around her rib-cage.
Stephens subsequently explained that as the holstered weapon discharged; the bullet hit the victim right into her heart after puncturing her lung. Although Miller was rushed to a nearby medical facility but she couldn’t make it and after a short while; she died at the hospital.
Officer, whose name was not immediately released, was said to be performing his administrative duties; the shooting would however be investigated. Stephens informed further that findings of the investigating team would later be reported to the Wayne County prosecutor.
