New Orleans Louisiana. A doberman that was shot by a burglar in the mouth two weeks ago protecting his owner's property is out of the hospital and back home with his owners.
The doberman is a male dog named Zeus who was in surgery for 36 hours to save his life. Veterinarians were able to save the dog.
Henry McCaskill who is the owner of the dog could not afford to pay the medical bill that would be in the thousands of dollars. The Humane Society of America collected donations in the New Orleans metropolitan area and nationwide to help pay for the operation.
Mcaskill said of the generosity of those persons who helped pay for the surgery of his dog. "It justs let me know that people are still good." You hear a lot of bad things that go in the world, but there a lot of good people. Times like this they really come together, and I'm just thankful and grateful."
McCaskill said once the veterinarian bills are paid the money that remains will go to toward aiding dogs in Louisiana that have been abused or neglected.
