A decorated World War I soldier and a former judge, Ernst Hess, regardless of being raised as a Protestant and married someone of that faith, in the eyes of the Nazi regime he was still a “full-blooded Jew.”

Hess was granted official pardon notwithstanding this designation thanks to none other than Adolf Hitler, according to a groundbreaking report.
