Baton Rouge Louisiana. East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office (EBRSO) spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks reports the deputies of the EBRSO on Friday arrested the alleged gunman who killed one man and wounded another man on June 26.
Davontay Kendell Ricks, 20, of Baton Rouge was arrested Friday and booked with first degree murder and attempted first degree murder of Jermaine Vallery, 22, of Baton Rouge and another man who was not mentioned in the police report on the evening of Tuesday June 26 near Gardene Lane.
The wounded man in the shooting told the deputies that and Vallery were conversing with Ricks and another man outside Ned Avenue around 11:30pm the evening of the crime.
The affidavit reports that during the conversion it became an argument and Ricks walked into his apartment came out with a handgun shot Vallery and him.
The wounded man ran to seek help when he collapsed on Skysail Drive. He was taken to a Baton Rouge hospital where he was treated for his shotgun wounds.
The report says a .40 caliber casings were found at the crime scene were from the handgun Vallery had in his possession. A 9mm handgun was found near the wounded man on Skysail Drive but the casings did not match his weapon.
Hicks said the police are looking for the second suspect in the shooting John Albert Gaza III, 24, of Baton Rouge on charges of being a principal to first degree murder and attempted first degree murder.
Hicks said the case is still being investigated.
