Royal watchers may want to know what exactly goes on in the day-to-day life of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Well, to some extent their curiosity has been satiated. OK! Magazine in this week’s July 16th issue features the various aspects of the daily life of royals Prince William and wife Catherine, the former.
Contrary to what the media portrays, OK! Magazine reports, William and Kate are not the typical high-profile kind of couple spending their waking hours in luxurious settings. They are just as contented, dressed casually watching a rugby match or a movie or sharing a romantic dinner by themselves.
Although they are royals, but like any ordinary couple, William and Kate are happiest when indulging in the simple pleasures of life, away from the limelight. For instance, can any one of us ever imagine the future Queen of England walking down to the nearest supermarket for groceries or for that matter slaving over a hot stove preparing cottage pie for her hubby?
But that is really what is going on within the confines of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s home at Angelsy, once the couple retreat into their own private space. Far away from the media’s prying eyes, inside their home William and Kate is very much an unassuming couple. All that makes them really happy is simple home-cooked food and sneaking off to cinema late at night.
Catherine is a typical ‘dutiful wife’ who has taken to her role ‘like a duck to water,’ reports OK! Once William returns home after his long duty hours as a captain at RAF as a search and rescue helicopter pilot, he finds a warm bath kept ready for him followed by piping hot dinner on the table, sometimes made up of his favorite cottage pie and Catherine’s favorite sticky toffee pudding.
Catherine an ardent cook was given a copy of ‘Jekka’s Herb Cookbook’ by grand-ma-in-law Queen Elizabeth. The cookery book is full of recipes sure to impress any hubby let alone a foodie like Prince William. After a lingering dinner, the pair then curls up on the sofa to watch a DVD, something Catherine usually orders online.
Speaking about their day to day life, an insider says: ‘They are actually surprisingly normal and down-to-earth when the cameras are off.’ ‘Catherine has been a great influence on William in that way. She introduced him to a simpler, easier way of life and he loves it. They like to watch movies, sleep in and have nice meals at home.’
Basically it’s the little pleasures of life that bring them immense joy. According to friends William and Kate love reading the papers side-by-side and drink tea in front of the fire. These priceless, close moments are something that Catherine cherishes. It is these little moments which usually common folks tend to take for granted, but it is something very significant to the royal duo.
Towards this end William and Kate try their best to be as normal as is practically possible. Take for instance, going to the cinema. Recently film fans in London were dumb-stuck on spotting the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in a queue for buying a box of popcorn before a screening of ‘Avengers Assemble.’
A bespectacled Prince William was dressed down, with a baseball cap on his head, while a makeup less Catherine with her hair tied back looked casual in a skinny pair of jeans. The royals did their best to be one with the crowds at the Odeon in London’s Kensington. This was not the first time that the couple had turned up at a cinema impromptu. In 2011 they had dropped in at the local multiplex Llandudno in Wales to watch ‘Bridesmaids.’
Also like any of us ordinary folk, the duo love to have romantic dinners. The couple has been reportedly spotted at a high-end brassiere Automat in Mayfair, tucking into succulent cheese-burgers. Another favorite joint of theirs is Archipelago, well-known for its exotic dishes.
When Catherine is at her London residence, she makes it a point to go for a jog at 7 am around the Kensington Palace gardens or Kensington Park close by. The Duchess is happily followed by her pet cocker spaniel Lupo and a royal protection officer. After sweating outdoors, Kate has a healthy breakfast of porridge for breakfast. She then kicks of her day with official work involving her charities, public appointments and other duties.
However, Duchess Kate makes it a point to keep aside time for her main priorities - her husband Prince William and younger sibling Pippa Middleton. Kate also is learning French and Spanish and keeps aside two hours a week for the same. She is also regularly visits Richard Ward’s salon in Sloane Square, where she is understood to her gorgeous mane blow-dried every three days.
