In southern Germany on Wednesday, police commandos stormed an apartment after a hostage taking took place and found five bodies, including that of the gunman, a spokesman said.
Before the team was called in to the apartment, the police sniffed smoke from the top-floor apartment in Karlsruhe at around lunchtime following a hostage standoff that began at 9 a.m., police spokesman Juergen Scheufer said.
The bodies found inside were of the suspect, along those of the court bailiff who had wanted to evict the man, the locksmith who was with him, the woman who was supposed to take over the apartment and another person, Scheufer said.
The incident happen when the man opened fire at the bailiff and the rest who went to the man’s apartment to eject him for failing to pay his rent, and then several shots were fired, killing one person. The entire area in the Nordstadt section of the city were blocked off by police and called in the police commando teams.
It was not clear whether they were able to make any contact with the gunman before the hostages were killed.
