The Church of Scientology responded regarding Katie’s claims that she was being followed by them through TMZ: “Gary Soter, lawyer for the Church [says] the Church of Scientology is not following Katie or conducting surveillance on her in the wake of her divorce with Tom Cruise.” Katie has also fired her security team because she feels they are too closely connected to Tom.
They also learned that Tom and Katie were both together in NYC weeks ago, but did not stay in the same place: Tom was at the Greenwich Hotel, but not the apartment they share in the city and Katie would go back and forth between said apartment and a new apartment she acquired recently. “The two were both photographed during their time in NYC but never together.”
Katie considered the marriage “irretrievably” broken nearly 6 months before filing the papers in NYC. She also claims via the papers that she and Tom have lived in New York for 2 years, which would help her obtain sole custody of daughter Suri — the court system in NYC would be more likely to do so considering the circumstances of the divorce.
It is rumored that the final straw for the two came when Katie learned that Tom would be putting Suri on a cruise (funny, huh) founded by a radical Scientology organization called “Sea Org”, where “the highest levels of Scientology are taught — and according to the Church website, it is composed of adults and minors who have committed their lives to the volunteer service of their religion.” However, Sea Org claims that Suri is too young for the voyage: “…in addition to the minimum age requirement (16 years old), minors must have “consent of both parents and/or all legal guardians” in order to join. There are no exceptions to the rule.”
Seems like this is really not going to end well, but at least couches are safe from Tom’s feet… for now. But this has got to be the worst birthday present ever for the actor.
Oh, did we forget to mention that tomorrow is Tom’s 50th birthday?
