Female Cricketers Finally Recognised

The ICC have announced that female cricketers representing their countries in One Day Internationals will be given the same recognition as their male counterparts.

This recognition is long overdue, and the fact that the rankings will only be done for One Day Internationals reflects there is still some way to go given Test Cricket should be the pinnacle of International Cricket. Unfortunately the women players don't get to participate in many Test matches, so for now it makes sense for the rankings to be based on the One Day format.

It's unfortunate that players like Karen Rolton won't get the long term recognition from these rankings as she would have held the No. 1 ranking for a number of years previously. However it is great for this next generation of cricketers, and gives players like Emma Sampson from Australia something to strive for and will hopefully assist with sponsorships.
