
According to reports coming from Afghanistan, at least 5 US soldiers were wounded Tuesday when an Afghan soldier allegedly opened fire on them in Wardak, the central Afghan province. The Afghan officials said the incident occured at the Sayed Abad city's US military base in eastern Wardak province while in the evening hours. After the incident, the unidentified attacker managed to escape successfully.
This happens to be the 19th incident during the current year in which the foreign forces have been targeted in the war-hit Afghanistan. Just on Monday, at least three US-led foreign troops were killed when an other Afghan police turned his weapon on them, in the southern region of Afthanistan. Similarly, another foreign foreign also lost his life last month; he was shot to his death in the country's southern region.
According to the updated figures, the death toll rises to 224 this year alone out of which, 164 were American troops. Last year i.e. 2011, at least 566 US-led forces were killed in Afghanistan though the major losses suffered by the foreign troops came in 2010; as many as 711 soldiers had died in various incidents.
