It was clear from the moment actresssecretly dropped the divorce bombshell on that she would soon need some solid legal advice. Now as things have proceeded in the custody battle over daughter Suri, an insider revealed to People magazine that Holmes' legal adviser is none other than her own dad, an Ohio-based attorney.
According to a report by People Magazine, a source close to Holmes said that her father, Martin Holmes, had immediately taken a flight to New York from his home in Ohio to assist his daughter in “quickly orchestrating her decisive exit.”
The source said that Holmes is now relying on her parents more than she ever did and her attorney father stands strongly by her side.
"Katie's father is very involved in the divorce proceedings and working closely with Katie's [lawyers]," a spy explained to Radar Online. "Katie's father has truly been her rock in the last several months, and she just doesn't know where she would be without him."
But daddy isn’t just giving legal advice to his 33-year-old daughter. Martin has also fired Holmes’ publicist that she shared with Tom Cruise for the last several years.
Yes that’s right, Katie Holmes is back with Leslie Sloane and Nancy Ryder, from her pre-TomKat times. And that’s not all. In her effort to retake control of her life from the dominating Cruise, the actress is set to star alongside Chace Crawford in her upcoming film, “Responsible Adults”, with the cameras slated to begin rolling sometime later this year.
While Martin Holmes is doing all he can to save his daughter from the complexities of the divorce proceedings and the custody battle that is sure to get uglier by the minute, a confidant of the actress told the final decision to take the first step in this direction was Holmes’ own.
"She's a strong person and makes up her own mind," said the confidant. And in the choice to end her marriage, “She's unwavering."
Since Holmes became pregnant with Cruise’s child, her parents had been against their relationship, because of Cruise’s deep-rooted involvement in the Church of Scientology. However, the couple got married and as more time passed, Martin got over his differences with his then son-in-law, according to a report by Christian Post.
