Englewood Colorado. Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway on Monday announced the team have signed place kicker Matt Prater to a four year contract. Terms of the new contract were not released.
Prater joined the Broncos in 2007 after the team signed Prater from the Miami Dolphins practice squad.
In the 2011 football season Prater kicked the winning field goal in four of the last six games the Broncos won in route of making the playoffs for the first time in six years.
Prater is second place in Broncos history with field goal percentage of 80.4 which is behind former Broncos place kicker Jason Elam who has a field goal percentage of 80.6.
Prater has the best field goal percentage of 75 percent from field goals made from 50 or more yards in Broncos history. Prater has converted 28 out of 29 field goals in the fourth quarter or overtime.
Prater is the equal of former National Football League place kicker Morten Andersen who was one of the best clutch field goal kickers of his time.
