India, Pakistan share honours in U-19 Asia Cup

India and Pakistan shared the maiden ACC U-19 Asia Cup after a thrilling tie in the final at the Kinrara Oval in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on sunday.

After loosing toss , Pakistan U19 team, put to bat, made a commanding total of 282 for 9, from 50 overs. It could have been more, had it not been for a five wicket haul by Kalaria which initiated a collapse in the last overs of the Pakistan innings.

Pakistani opener Sami Aslam ensured that India A never take the hold of the position as he kept one end busy and scored at a brisk pace, he got some support from Waheed (48) and together they had a partnership of 100. Asla was brilliant and scored 134 runs of just 124 balls with 13 fours and three sixes.

Kalaria returned with a match figures of five for 37 from his quota of 10 overs.

India started well and were going smoothly till they reached 195. A175-run stand for the second wicket between Chand and B Aparajith. Aparajith fell 10 short of a hundred, Nawaz’s first victim of the game. Apart from these two, none of the other India batsmen managed to go past 23, as the lower-middle order let the game slip from their grasp.

It came up to India U-19 needing seven runs of the last over.. India managed six runs .

Pakistan were left to celebrate animatedly, for they had seemed shut out of the contest after Chand and Aparajith put on 175 for the second wicket.

For Pakistan, Adil and Nawaz took three wickets apiece to halt the rampaging Indian side

The Man of The Match award was shared by two centurions Unmukt Chand and Sami Aslam while both teams shared the ACC U-19 Asia Cup trophy.

Both India and Pakistan head to Australia to compete with 14 other teams in the ICC U-19 World Cup starting in August.

Brief scores:

Pakistan Under-19s 282 for 9 (Aslam 134, Kalaria 5-37) tied with India Under-19s 282 for 8 (Chand 121, Aparajith 90, Nawaz 3-45).
