Mohammed Morsi sworn in as Egypt's president

President Mohamed Morsi 60-year-old who resigned from the Muslim Brotherhood after winning the election this month as he took the oath of office Saturday morning ceremony was held at Egypt's Supreme Constitutional Court, President Morsi vowed to protect Egypt's "modern, civil, constitutional state."to become the country's first freely elected president, since the overthrow of the monarchy in 1952 nearly 60 years ago, He said the past year's events have shown that Egypt "is being brought to life as a strong country." Ahram newspaper reported

“We welcome you in this Supreme Constitutional Court and we appreciate your presence here today in this great judiciary institution,” said Farouk Sultan, the president of the court. “Your physical presence here today is a real symbol of support for constitutional legitimacy and upholding the law over everyone.” According to NewYork Times

After that President Morsi traveled to Cairo University where Hundreds of soldiers and policemen surrounded the building as Morsi arrived shortly after 1:30 p.m. local time (11 a.m. GMT) in a small motorcade. he spoke to hundreds of officials and supporters at lecture hall in Cairo University including many members of the Islamist-dominated parliament dissolved by the military earlier in June and Military ruler Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi was in attendance who ruled Egypt since Mubarak's ouster follows.

Morsi said Egypt would not attempt to export its revolution to other countries in the region and he expressed support for Palestinian unity and for Syrians battling against Al Assad's regime and "We want the bloodshed to stop," he added.

Mr Morsi thanked the military for seeing through the presidential elections and said "The armed forces are the shield and sword of the nation," he said. "I pledge before God that I will safeguard that institution, soldiers and commanders, raise its prestige and support it with all the powers available to me so it can be stronger." According to Fox News

Morsi's Friday speech in Tahrir Square in front of tens of thousands of supporters He began his speech by chanting, "Revolutionaries and free, we will continue the journey." he said."I renounce none of the prerogatives of president," "You are the source of power and legitimacy," he told his supporters."There is no place for anyone or any institution ... above this will." According to News.com.au
