A 65-year-old woman, who visited Riverview Medical Center with stomach complaint, shocked the doctors on June 10 when they learned what they had to deal with. The pain was caused by a 51 pound Tumor that the doctors had to remove immediately. The patient had to undergo 5-hour-long surgery. However, the woman is recovering fast and is likely to return home next week.
The 65-year-old unnamed woman was rushed into Red Bank-based hospital’s surgery June 10 with a swollen abdomen and severe stomach pains. However, a CAT scan revealed that the patient had one life-threatening tumor, inside of her stomach. The New Jersey, Union Beach resident thus had to undergo a surgery on emergency basis.
According to Riverview Medical Center officials, it took Dr. David Dupree about five hours to completely remove the tumor. Further, Dr. David was able to successfully remove the mass in one piece. Dr. David informed that the tumor had also engulfed several other organs including intestines’ segments; he said they were required to be removed too.
Dupree said the woman’s vena cava (the largest of the blood supplying veins to heart in a human body) was also compressed by the tumor. Subsequently, Dupree explained that in order to save the patient’s life; it was essential to remove the tumor right away. He added further that the woman was likely to resume normal activities pretty soon.
