Fever Symptoms, Causes, Treatment and Measuring Body Temperatures ...

A fever is a very common thing. People hardly pay attention to the rising temperature and turn to home remedies. However, in some conditions, fever is very fatal and it is imperative to pay attention to it.

Before moving ahead it is important to know what fever exactly is. By definition, a fever is a rise in body temperature above 100.4 F. A fever is normally a result of an infection. The brain increases the body’s temperature as a response to the infection.

This is not the only reason for a fever. Other causes of fever are systematic diseases and often high room temperature can also cause body temperature to rise. A fever in most conditions is a sign that something is wrong with your body or your body isn’t able to fight the viruses present and need some help.

So, when should you worry about your body’s temperature? Simple! When it is not normal. A temperature above 98.6F is normal; however, if it goes above 100.4 F, you need to worry about it again. It must be remembered that your body temperature differs in your mouth, your legs, your neck or your arms. There is a substantial difference. Doctors prefer putting the thermometer inside your mouth, as it gives the best results.

A fever is not always bad. It actually slows us down so that our body gathers power to fight the infection. Also, many infections die or do not grow when the body’s temperature increases. Some even believe that the immune system works better when a person has fever.

However, all this depends on what kind of a fever you have. If you have continuous high temperature, it is time to worry. Fever is often a symptom of a major disease and must be paid attention to. It is not wise to neglect the signs.

Fever is a symptom of some major diseases, such as malaria, typhoid and many types of cancers. If you have continuous fever, it is better to go to the doctor and get tested to know what exactly is causing the fever.

Fever with swelling is also something to worry about. It can be a sign of meningitis that needs attention. Fever with other symptoms (headache, vomiting, cough) should be treated right away as they can get out of control.

Among infants, fever is normally the only sign of disease. Many babies are born with several infections. It is important to visit the doctor and get your baby checked if his or her body temperature is not normal.

Fever during pregnancy or right after recovering from a disease should also be paid much attention to, as it might be a sign of something serious.
