A couple of young brothers were said to have climbed a fence and went under in a neighbor’s pool while their mother slept, authorities in northern New Jersey said. Officials are thinking whether to press neglect charges against the boys' mother.
Kendell Francois, 3, and his brother, Kenley, 5, were pulled out by Union Township police from the bottom of the pool. They were declared dead at a hospital at 8:17 p.m. Thursday.
The mother of the two young boys had fallen asleep just after 3 p.m. and the kids were missing when she got up 6:45 p.m., Police Director Dan Zieser told The Star-Ledger of Newark. The neighbor did not know the children had gotten into the pool, Zieser said.
Union County Prosecutor Theodore Romankow said Thursday night that while foul play isn't suspected, officials should look into if there’s any neglect by anyone.
