The City Council of Houston Texas has decided to impose a fees on local strip clubs 5$ per visitor to help funds to analyse biological evidence collected from rape victims. It is reported by The Wall Street Journal.
The Mayor of Annise Parker also supported the proposed measures. and Board members voted 14 - 1. strip clubs should contribute to the investigation of rape cases, as cultivating an unhealthy attitude towards women, which may lead to attacks on them.
Albert Van Huff lawyer representing a local strip clubs critics the measures which are taken by council and calim it do not match with logic. he argues that “There is no known correlation between people going to nice, high-end gentlemen’s clubs and rape. and added “The city wants to tax these clubs out of business.” according to The Sun
The tax will also apply to the institutions in which adult entertainment are organized from time to time. In a year, according to estimates, will be able to collect up three million dollars. In total 30 clubs in the city .
According to New Smax, Ellen Cohen, the council member who championed the ordinance said that "There are negative secondary effects associated with adult-entertainment establishments,"
