Take, I pray thee, my blessing that is brought to thee; because God hath dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough. And he urged him, and he took it.
-- Gen. 33:11 (KJV)
Jacob wasn't giving to his brother because Esau was broke. Jacob insisted on giving because it was a blessing. Giving is only one half of the equation. When you give, then God will give to you. When you fully understand the concept of blessing others, then you will look to help others a bit more than what you do now.
