Mysore, the erstwhile royal kingdom of the Wodeyar Kings, is presently the second largest city of the south Indian state of Karnataka. Mysore was the capital of the Wodeyar Kings till 1947. It was under the rule of the Wodeyar Monarchs except for a short period of time in the 18th century, when it was conquered by the rebel leader Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan.
