2012 Daytime Emmy winners (complete list)

Sandra Lee Nominated for an Emmy

On June 23 Daytime went Prime Time with the 39th annual Daytime Emmy Awards when the awards were presented in a gala presentation from the Beverly Hotel.

Talk show host Anderson Cooper and Sesame Street’s trash can dweller Oscar the Grouch opened the show with a skit that included Oscar singing about Daytime – and what’s so good about it.

The first award for the night set the tone for one popular Daytime Drama when Anthony Geary – who plays Luke Spencer on “General Hospital” was presented the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. The award made seven Daytime Emmy Awards for Geary, the most for an one actor.

And the winners are…

Outstanding Game Show Host: Todd Newton on “Family Game Night”.

Outstanding Game/Audience Participation Show: “Jeopardy”

Outstanding Legal or Courtroom Program: “Last Shot with Judge Gunn”.

Outstanding Writing Team for a Drama Series: “Days of Our Lives”

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series: Jonathan Jackson – Lucky Spencer – on “General Hospital.

Outstanding Lifestyle/Culinary Show Host: Sandra Lee, host of “Semi Homemade Cooking”.

Outstanding Culinary Program: “Bobby Flay’s Barbecue Addiction”. This was a new award this year.

Outstanding Younger Actor: Chandler Massey as Will Horton in “Days of Our Lives”.

Long time news reporter and talk show host Barbara Walters presented the Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award to “The View” executive producer Eddie Geddie.

Outstanding Morning Program: “The Today Show”.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series: Heather Tom on “The Bold and the Beautiful”. Tom is the first actor to win the Younger Actor Award, the Supporting Actor Award, and the Lead Actor Award.

Outstanding Informative Talk Show: “The Dr. Oz Show”

Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show: “Live with Regis and Kelly”

Outstanding Children’s Animated Program: “Penguins of Madagascar”

Outstanding Performer in a Children’s Series: Kevin Clas as Elmo on “Sesame Street”.

AOL Best Viral Video: “Kid’s React”. This was a new award.

Outstanding New Approaches in Daytime Entertainment: “Take this Lollipop”; this is a web based program.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series: Nancy Lee Grahn in “General Hospital”.

Susan Luccii, Cameron Matheson and Erica Slezak paid tribute to “As the World Turns”, “Guiding Light”, “All My Children”, and “One Life to Live”; all daytime dramas that are no longer on the air.

Outstanding Talk Show Host: Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa of “Regis and Kelly”.

Outstanding Directing Team in a Drama Series: “General Hospital”

The Daytime Emmy Awards paid tribute to those who had passed on in their Memorial segment – Jack Lalanne, Jeff Conaway, Leonard B. Stern. Sherwood Schwartz, David Pressman, Mary Fickett, Patricia Breslin, Sue Mengers, Judy Lewis, Nick Santino, Jonathan Frid, Dick Clark, Bob Stewart, Lee Rich, Jim Paratore, Katherine Joosten, Ray Bradbury, Richard Dawson, and Judy Freudberg.

Outstanding Younger Actress: Christel Khalil in “Young and the Restless”.

The final award of the evening was for Outstanding Drama Series: “General Hospital”.

On June 17 the awards ceremony for the Creative Arts Daytime Emmy Awards were held at the Westin Bonaventure in Los Angeles. Byron Allen hosted the event. The Creative Arts Awards honour the outstanding achievement of the men and women who help to bring the daytime line up to television flawlessly.
