Chevrolet Cruze cars have been recalled by General Motors Company for an adjustment in the model's engine to prevent any possibility of fire. The models in the year 2011 and 2012 are included in the recall after a number of reports of fire in these models' engine. No casualties have been reported in these fire incidents; however the company has decided to recall the vehicles of the defective models to prevent any future accidents.
Around half a million cars are included in the recall. The recalled vehicles would be from United States as well as several other countries where the specified models have been sold. Authorities have taken notice of the defect in the car engine and called for action by the automaker to rectify it.
The company has taken this step to satisfy the customers who would be questioning the safety of driving the Cruze. "The most important thing for our customers to know is that we are proactively working to assure the Cruze is the safe and durable car they purchased. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused by these actions," GM vice president of global quality Alicia Boler-Davis stated in a recent statement as reported at detroitnews.com.
The owners of the cars that need the modification will receive the service without any extra charges and the procedure will be conducted in a time frame of around half an hour. The company is ensuring that every defected vehicle gets the modification done and there are no cases of fire as have been reported earlier.
The recall will incur huge expenses for the motor company but has become necessary to save this model which is very popular in the global market. Chevrolet Cruze is one of the most popular models by General Motors and sold globally by the company. So it is very important for the company to maintain the sales that bring profits for them.
When defects are reported in the released models by the automakers, they need to be addressed on an urgent basis as risk of life increases in such cases. The company becomes responsible if an accident occurs because of those defects. So they try to every extent that no casualty takes place and their reputation also remains stable. General Motors is also taking action for the same purpose and repairing the cars to avoid any mishap.
