Ann Curry, who co-hosts the “The Today Show” will soon be bidding adieu to the program that brought her much fame and respect. It is a matter of time now before she will be exiting the show. It has become very clear in the last few days that this is likely to happen imminently. NBC has remained mum on the issue.
So far NBC has kept quiet on who might be replacing Curry and this just might be the biggest confirmation that could have come for the network’s side. They have not denied or refuted the reports that Curry might be shown the door soon. Call it coincidence or irony but a banner reading “Here Today, Gone Tomorrow” was on screen during Curry’s interview with Steve Carell about his new movie, “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World”. The banner was meant to be humorous and was a reference to Carell’s movie that is set in the backdrop of the day before an asteroid crashes into the planet. Poor timing you may call it!
Another telling moment during the show came when Matt Lauer interviewed the 68 year old woman who was bullied by students on a school bus. Lauer was worked up and very aggressive when he spoke about how he wished he could publicly state the names of the bullies on national television.
It seemed like intuitive aggression and frustration which is not normally shown by Lauer. It was obvious that it was not just the story that had him worked up rather there was more to it.
It is now clear that whatever was going on with Curry started well before Wednesday afternoon when Brian Stetler, working for the Times published a story detailing what had transpired and what was going to happen.
Ann has hired media lawyers Robert Barnett to represent her in talks with NBC so that her role maybe shifted to that of a foreign correspondent. An NBC source revealed to the Chicago Sun Times that, “This isn’t personal, it’s business.” It was only last year that Ann took over for Meredith Vieira but she has been with the show for more than a decade now. Soon all answers and speculation will be laid to rest when Curry leaves the show. Let’s wait and watch how the story unfolds now.
