After months of rumors that actorand his longtime partner, , are calling it quits, Depp’s rep finally made the news official on Tuesday, leaving thousands of fans wondering what went wrong between the famous couple.
For the past several months, the couple had been seen living separate lives after moving to Los Angeles from France. They had not appeared together on the red carpet for nearly two years and Depp had been spotted partying with other women several times.
According to People Magazine, swirling rumors linked Depp to various women during the time of his crumbling relationship with Paradis. Amber Heard, the actress who appeared with Depp in “The Rum Diary” was spotted boarding a private plane with the actor to Las Vegas earlier this year. Depp was also seen regularly partying with and spending late nights at the singer's Hollywood home.
Various tabloids linked Johnny Depp to his "Dark Shadows" co-star,, and his publicist, Robin Baum. While Depp’s rep has not commented over the presumptive reasons of the split, he has requested the media and fans to respect the privacy of the couple and that of their children, Lily-Rose, 13, and Jack, 9.
A source close to the couple told Radar Online that “Johnny didn’t want to be with Vanessa any more. They had grown so far apart, and he wanted to be free and try new things.” The source further said, “The spark had gone, and there was nothing left. Johnny just wants more from life and believes Vanessa deserves to be happier too.”
Just weeks before the split was confirmed, French actress and singer Paradis looked glum as she was caught house hunting in Beverley Hills. Paradis, however, kept on insisting that her relationship with Depp was going just fine.
Vanessa and Johnny had been together for the last 14 years, but never felt the need to tie a wedding knot. Paradis once famously told Elle, "I love the romance of 'let's get married,' but then, when you have it so perfect ... I mean, I'm more married than anybody can be – we have two kids. Maybe one day, but it's something I can really do without."
Paradis is set to receive one of the biggest payoffs, according to a report by the Daily Mail, which says that Depp will be paying £100 million to the actress in his effort to keep the split as amicable as possible for the sake of their children.
