Karen Klein was seen on a YouTube video being brutally bullied by 12- and 13-year old boys on a school bus in Greece, N.Y. The 68-year-old Klein works as a school bus monitor for Athena Middle School. She was a school bus driver for 20 years prior to becoming a school bus monitor.
The boys badgered her and picked on her until she cried. One of the boys posted the video the little fools made on YouTube and the video went viral. An outpouring of concern from viewers all over the world has raised almost $200,000. A friend of Klein’s decided to set up a fundraising account on indiegogo and the fund exploded. Feel free to contribute to this fund if you so desire.
In a day and age where education for the effects of bullying is seen on television, the Internet, in schools and in the newspaper, one would hope that such incidents would not occur. The reality of the situation is that children will behave inappropriately in situations that you would least expect. No one is saying the school is responsible for these actions, but many people are hopeful these bullies will learn a lesson. In hopes that the school and parents will discipline these children as well as make them apologize to this poor woman, feel free to contact the school.

In the meantime, Klein is overwhelmed by the kindness expressed by others. She is very touched by the kindness expressed to her following such an upsetting situation. Klein was very hurt by the whole situation. CBS News reports, “In the video, a student is heard saying, 'But you don't have a family because they all killed themselves because they didn't want to be near you. Something about me being so fat and ugly your kids probably should commit suicide,’ Klein told WROC. ‘I don't think they knew my son had....I wanted to punch them is what I wanted to do. So that's why I laid back, tried to ignore it. Because I really wanted to hurt them, you know? You can't do that!"
Congratulations to Klein and thank you to the many concerned people who have contributed to the fund. Maybe she can stay home and not have to go back to work anymore. At 68, she deserves it.
