England strikermade amends after missing the first two matches of the Euro 2012 Group Stage due to suspension. Rooney scored the only goal in England's 1-0 victory over co-host Ukraine.
Rooney scored in the 48th minute off of a crossing pass that was deflected three times and skipped under the goalkeeper's hands. The ball landed at Rooney's feet for the easy goal.
Their win is twinged with a bit of controversy because Ukraine was jobbed out of a goal in the 67th minute when England defenderkicked the ball out of goal, but the ball already had crossed the goal line into the net. However, soccer doesn't have instant replay and the goal didn't count.
With the victory, England wins Group D with seven points. With Ukraine losing, France also makes it into the quarterfinals after laying a 2-0 egg against Sweden. England will play Italy, while France will go against Spain in the quarterfinals.
