Policemen are expected to be fast, furious and slim and pot-bellied policemen cannot do justice to their posts or function effectively – hence, the battle of the bulge has begun in Islamabad as reported in canada.com dated 18th of June 2012.
Habibur Rehman, the chief of police in Punjab, the most populous province of Pakistan has ordered that the 175,000 personnel of the police force must ensure that their waistlines should not go beyond 38 inches (96 cm).
At least 50% of policemen in Pakistan are believed to be overweight.
A target date of 30th of June has been fixed tentatively and those who do not meet the bulge criterion would be removed from field duties in the first instance because such policemen cannot run after or chase criminals.
There is, therefore, a mad rush to join gyms, go for jogging and carry out other exercises to become thin and slim.
