A suspect was held in a massive manhunt after an armed man shot dead two women paramilitary gendarmes in a village in southeast France.
Investigators said the gendarmes , aged 29 and 35, were intervening in a family dispute when a man grabbed the gun of one of them and killed her, then turned and shot the other woman.
The suspect, who an investigator said appeared to be drunk, made off with the gendarmes’ revolvers.
“A person corresponding to the description” of the wanted man, aged 25, tall and well-built, with a shaved head, was being held, Toulon prosecutor Xavier Tarabeux told media in the village of Collobrieres, where the drama happened.
In the history of the gendarmerie it was happened for the first time that two females from the force had been killed in the same operation,
