BMW officials reported that the i3 concept car will start its production version right from 2013. The brand revealed the concept car in Park Lane, London, which is a new brand showroom. BMW i3 concept car is electric made with certain eco-friendly objectives. The launch of BMW i3 was accompanied by an electric bicycle concept, which the brand named as i Pedelec. In the first snapshots, we can see the exterior design unvaried from the previous i3 concept, but the exterior colour combinations and painting are varied.
Another feature is the weight reduction mechanisms of BMW to make it more performance oriented. The carbon fibre reinforced plastic, which is the material for reduced weight keeps the weight below 1250 kg. The electric motor can deliver up to 168 bhp and 170 lb ft torque. This massive motor is situated in the rear part of the vehicle. The engine arrangements are made to contribute maximum space inside the cabin. The brand says that the concept car can reach from dead 0 to 62 mph in 8 seconds. Lithium ion batteries are used to store energy and are located beneath the floor. All the components are arranged in a way that ensures perfect weight balance.
Another cool feature that we need to discuss is the charging specifications of BMW i3 concept. The car can be charged from a standard socket and the Lithium ion batteries will be fully charged in 6 hours. But the brand officials stated that the initial 80% charging will happen in the first 1 hour, which increases the convenience of the customer. Another awesome power saving mechanism in this car is that you can quickly disconnect the electric motor from the axle using a coasting mode. Then the car will travel only using momentum. The power consuming features like heated seat, heated mirror, etc can be suddenly shut down using the Eco Pro mode, if the battery lowers during a long journey.
