Major General robert Mood the chief observer of the UN mission to Syria has said none of the 300 UN monitors there will go out on patrol or leave their locations whilst fighting continues.
The decision was taken after monitors were prevented from travelling to scenes of recent fighting, and in some cases the monitors themselves had been shot at.
UK foreign secretarysaid ceasing these patrols 'Heightened the Urgency for international action against president Bashar al Assad's regime.'
Neither of the combatants have heeded UK envoy Kofi Annan's peace proposals.
It is believed the rebels are being supplied with both medicines and light weaponry from Saudi Arabia and Qatar to sustain themselves.
