This is dedicated to all of the Mr. John Malloy Washington's, Willie J. Lewis', James McRae's, Edward Sherald's, Michael Jackson's, Eddie Levert's, Johnnie Louis Doctor's, Homer Williams', John Williams', Henry Clarence Ezekiel's, Don Cornelius', Martin Luther King Jr's, Malcolm X's, David Thurman's, Lonnie Jackson's, Barack Obama Jr's, the men of St John AME Church in Columbus, and of known history to and all over the world, as well as the thousands of other black men who did not run out on their families or their children when times got tough.
And to my own four sons, Galen, Brian, Eric and Brandon, who turned out to be much greater and bigger men than the ones they've known in their lifetimes. I am proud to have given life, and God's breath, to these extraordinary young men and fathers. Mikaela, Jordan, Ashanti, Maya, Jevon, Xavier, and Amarie ... dance with your fathers while you still can.
Happy Father's Day.
