A shoplifter did not look where he was going and ran right bang into a road sign and was knocked out cold as he was trying to escape from his pursuers in the Otaika Shopping Center in Whangarei.

This strange incident has happened in Whangarei and reported in nzherald.co.nz dated 15th of June 2012.

The shoplifter was a 19-year old youth from Mangawhai.

He had removed the security tag from a $130 pair of Nike Shoes in Rebel Sports and shoved the loot down his trousers intending to get past security but, a guard had seen him in the act.

The youth, immediately, hid the pair of shoes in a different location and tried to leave the spot but the guards gave chase down Port Rd and finally caught up with him outside a kayak store.

He again tried to escape and this time he ran into the road sign at head height.

The man has been charged with theft.
