ACT Teachers Partylist:Volunteer teachers lowest paid in gov' ABS-CBN News/DZMM MANILA, Philippines - ACT Teachers Party-listy Rep.Antonio Tinio on Wednesday revealed volunteer teachers are now the lowest paid workers in government, earning only a measly P3,000-P6,000 in honoraria. Speaking to radio dzMM, ACT-Teachers party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio lamented that volunteer teachers are being paid even less than the minimum wage even as the Department of Education has yet to hire additional teachers for the K+12 program. "These are contractual workers being given the lowest wages in government service. Tapos delayed pa sa probinsiya," he said. Tinio said around 1.6 million 5 year-old enrollees in Kindergarten this school year will result in a shortage of around 20000 teachers and 25000 classrooms in the country. source: ABS CBN News/Radio dzMM, June 6, 2012 www.abs-cbnnews.com
