All hydro projects of Uttrakhand state are facing shortage of water due to a long dry spell. Power generation has reached at lowest level after year 2000. The gap between Generation and Demand has reached more than 8 to 9000 million units . State is facing worst powr crisis of the history. Even state Capital Dehradun is facing 8 to 10 hours power cut daily. The other parts of state are forced to bear the power cut from 10 to 12 hours in day. Frequent agitations against power cut has become common phenomena. The temprature of the public is rising and it may lead to power riots in the urban areas of foothills.

Uttrakhand is a state which has large number of rivers and has a capacity to generate 30,000 MW hydro power from these rivers. but the religious outfit backed by R.S.S.,V.H.P.and foreign funding agencies succeded to scrap the three important hydro projects which may solve the power crisis of Uttrakhand as well as Delhi. Loharinahpala, Pipalkoti,Pala Maneri and Bhairon Ghati were capable to produce more than 1500 MW power . If Sangh Parivaar and few environmentalists funded by international funding agencies had not opposed these projects Delhi and Uttrakhand would be getting sufficient power.

Total power generation of Uttrakhand is 16000 million units. but bad weather and dry spell had adversally affected the power generation and the state is producing aproxmately 12 to 13000 million units. Uttrakhand gets 12000 units power from central pool.. Total power generation including central pool is only 24000 million units to 25000 million units while the demand of power has been increased by 33000 million units. The gap between generation and demand has been mounted up by 8000 million inits to 9000 million units. It is unprecedented . Never before it had happen. The 8 to 12 hours long power cut made the living conditions miserable in the valleys and foothills of Uttrakhand. Hundreds of people demonstrating in different localities of the state capital against power cut and water shortage. It is feared that such a long power cut may force people for power riots. The people of this hill state had never suffered such a power scarcity .Anger is mounting up.
