Members of Congress are going on a summer vacation this week and plan to take another vacation next month. But while their paychecks will continue to flow, those of millions of unemployed Americans will be forced to wait for any legislation that might improve their job outlook.
Republican House Majority Leader, Eric Cantor sets the schedule for congressional vacations, and apparently sees no need for his members to spend much time at work on legislation this summer. Fundraising takes priority.
“The schedule of course also permits them ample time to raise money and campaign for reelection,” according to the Washington Post.
Congress has been on vacation for 7 weeks so far this year, which may account for their lack of progress on passing any legislation to stimulate job growth they promised during their 2010 campaigns.

I don't begrudge Congress people vacations; in fact, if being out of Washington on an intermittent basic helps them gain perspective then I don't care. I am more concerned about what isn't happening when they ARE there.
We could solve the campaign fund raising by campaign reform, but that is not going to happen.
