For the past 65 years the Broadway Theatre has been honouring the best in Broadway and Off-Broadway productions. The 2012 edition of the Tony Awards were held at the Beacon Theatre in New York City.

It was a night of musical performances, star presentations, and first time winners.

The 66th annual Tony Awards opens with a musical production from the award winning musical “The Book of Mormon” that ends with the introduction of host Neil Patrick Harris who returns for his third appearance as host.

Harris performs a monologue and production of his own on what if life were more like the theatre that included an appearance by Patti Lapone.

The first award of the night was for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play and the Tony went to Judith Light for “Other Desert Cities”. It was her first Tony Award.

After a performance from cast members of the Tony nominated musical “Newsies”, and more comedy from Harris…Michael McGrath won the award for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical for his role in “Nice Work if You Can get It”.

Best Direction of a Play: Mike Nichols for “Death of a Salesman”

Best Featured Actor in a Play: Christian Borle in “Peter and the Starcatcher”.

Matthew Broderick and cast members from the Tony nominated musical “Nice Work if You Can get It” perform.

Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical: Judy Kaye in “Nice Work if You can Get It”.

Grammy winning singer Sheryl Crow presents the award for Best Original Score written for the Theater: Alal Menken and Jack Feldman for “Newsies”.

Cast members of the Tony nominated “Porgy and Bess” perform including Audra McDonald and David Alan Grier.

Best Revival of a Play: “Death of a Salesman”

Cast members from the Tony nominated musical “Once” perform.

Best Play: “Clybourne Park”

Cast members of the Tony nominated musical “Evita” including award winning Latin singer Ricky Martin perform.

Corbin Bleu and cast members from “Godspell” perform.

Best Revival of a Musical: “Porgy and Bess”

In a Tony Award first, a performance from “Hairspray” playing on a cruise ship in the Caribbean.

Hugh Jackman received a Special Tony Award which was presented by his wife.

Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical: Steve Kazee in “Once”

Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play: James Corden in “One Man, Two Guvnors”

Cast members from the Tony nominated musical “Leap of Faith” perform.

Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play: Nina Arianda in “Venus in Fur”

Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical: Audra McDonald in “Porgy and Bess”

Best Orchestrations: Martin Lowe for “Once”

Best Scenic Design of a Play: Donyale Werle for “Peter and the Starcatcher”

Best Scenic Design of a Musical: Bob Crowley for “Once”

Best Costume Design of a Play: Paloma Young for “Peter and the Starcatcher”

Best Costume Desgin of a Musical: Gregg Barnes for “Follies”

Best Lighting Design of a Play: Jeff Croiter for “Peter and the Starcatcher”

Best Lighting Design of a Musical: Natasha Katz for “Once”

Best Sound Design of a Play: Darron L. West for “Peter and the Starcatcher”



Best Sound Design of a Musical: Clive Goodwin for “Once”
