Spain vs Italy highlights

The Euro 2012 first round match Spain vs Italy is all set tonight at the PGE Arena, Gdansk. Check this page for Spain vs Italy Live Score updates.

The Euro 2008 Champion Spain undergoes some face lift as injured duo of defender Carles Puyol and striker David Villa won't be seen in action tonight. But the fluid Spain midfield featuring Xavi, Cesc Fabregas and Andres Iniesta all Barcelona stars will be seen with excitement. Manager Vicente del Bosque will decide either Sergio Ramos or Raul Albiol will partner Gerard Pique at centre-back, while Fernando Torres, Fernando Llorente or Alvaro Negredo up front will be decided still. It was Torres goal against Geramny in the 2008 Euro finals that crowned them as champions.

Italy's main concern is their weak defense With the injury of Andrea Barzagli who is ruled out out from the tournament. Their 3-0 loss to Russia will attest to that. Midfielder Daniele De Rossi is set to reinforce in at centre-back alongside Giorgio Chiellini. The Manchester City forward Mario Balotelli who's a threat of goals for the Italians. Coach Cesare Prandelli said, "Spain are very strong but we have beaten them and no team is invincible. I have a team with character, quality and willingness."

Star loaded and World Cup champion Spain is clear favorites to win but expect Italy to pull some shocking upset against Spain. Check this page for Spain vs Italy Live Score updates.

Starting line-up Spain - Casillas, Arbeloa, Piqué, Ramos, Alba, Busquets, Alonso, Silva, Xavi, Iniesta, Torres

Italy Starting line-up - Buffon, Bonucci, De Rossi, Chiellini, Marchisio, Motta, Maggio, Pirlo, Giaccherini, Balotelli, Cassano

~~~~~~~SCORE UPDATES~~~~~~~~~~~
Italian skipper Cesare Prandelli daring move using three central defenders formation of midfielder Daniele De Rossi slot in between Angelo Ogbonna and Giorgio Chiellini paid off. The move did countered Spain's 'false number nine' formation which saw them line-up without a recognised striker as Italy were causing headaches for in defense.
However Fabregas break it through in beautiful set up from Silva as Barcelona forwad put it through past Buffon to tie the game at 64' minute. The goal came just four minutes as Di Natale slides the shot past Casillas on Italy first goal.
Fernando Torres who's rumored to start instead of Fabregas came in late part of the game squandered two opportunities to score. Torres fresh legs was not a factor when he overun the ball at the box and eventually give Buffon to tackle where in fact its a sure goal if he flicks it earlier. Again Chelsea striker has a good chance to score at 85th minute but he chips the ball over the Buffon and over the bar. Torres just squandered that chance just reacts in frustration, no wonder he was bench at Chelsea Champion League finals against Bayern Munich. Torres wasn't in great form compared to his great performance 4 years ago in Euro 2008 winning goal. Spain team in this Euro just showed their weaknesses coming into this tournament.
FINAL SCORE
Spain 1 - 1 Italy
64' Fabregas -- 60' Di Natale
