Uttrakhand has become the death trap for the road passengers and piligrimes. Both Border Roads Organization and State P.W.D.failed to make the roads safe and passenger friendly. Whole system of road safety has been collapsed .The military bureaucracy of Border roads organization has got out of control and accountability. B.R.O.completely ignoring the road safety meassures and state government is unable to communicate its dissent to Ministry of Defence. The failure of Central and state goverments has doubled the crisis. The hazardous roads had claimed more than 500 life in a period of just six months.Eight passengers died last day in Chakrata and two persons died in Dhanolti today in different road accidents.

More than 250 piligrimes has been killed so far in the road accidents since last April during Chardham Yatra due to worst road conditions but B.R.O. and state government took no steps to improve the roads. Conditions may become more dangerous in upcoming monsoon season. Frequent land slides may cause more hazard to the passengers. It is also notable that rampant corruption in state Government is also a major cause of bad road condition. The maintainance of state highways is at halt due insufficient funds and low quality of work. While the military control over B.R.O. made this organization arrogant and unaccountable. The attitude of Defence Ministry is making the things more complicedfor the people. Main concern is the attitude of state government who failed to communicate the dissent of the state to Ministry of Defence. The absence of civillian control had made B.R.O.and its military bosses more unaccountable.
