Pakistani model and actress Veena Malik has raised eyebrows by making yet another astonishing announcement. On Twitter today, she said she supports the same-sex marriage. Malik belongs to a Muslim country, where same-sex relationships and marriages are not allowed. Despite that, she boldly issued the statement, saying, “I openly support the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community and I don’t feel shy about doing it,” according to a report by Pakistan's Express Tribune.

Veena Malik is residing in India these days. It seems that the Pakistani controversy queen is following the footsteps of Kim Kardashian and Lady Gaga, who recently announced their full support for the same-sex marriage.

Malik said that every human being has the right to live his or her life the way they want. In the past too, Veena has said that every individual is answerable to himself/herself and not to people around them.

She supported her statement by giving example of United states President Barrack Obama. “If US President Barack Obama and Hollywood beauties can stand up for gay marriage, why can’t every citizen support this cause?” said Malik.

Media analysts believe that it was easy for Malik to support the same-sex marriage in India because the Indian government has legalized gay marriages despite a lot of pressure. However, if she were residing in Pakistan, she would never have dared to release such a statement because there the same-sex marriage is considered a taboo and would have sparked outrage.

So far Veena Malik is the only Pakistani who has publicly announced her support for gay people. Her announcement on Twitter was appreciated by all her fans. But the conservative elements as well as the majority of Pakistanis did not like her bold announcement. Many believe Malik is trying to earn cheap popularity by releasing such statements.

Malik will be prolonging her stay in India, as she has signed many Indian films recently. She has signed a Telugu version of Bollywood’s super hit movie “The Dirty Picture”. Other Hindi movies that she has signed include "Mumbai 125km" and "Zindagi 50- 50". She has also done an item song in an Indian movie called “Daal Main Kuch kala Hai”.

Veena Malik was seen for the first time on Indian TV in the reality show, "Big Boss".
